Background of the study
E-learning platforms have become essential tools in the education sector, offering flexible learning opportunities to students. With the increasing reliance on technology in educational settings, the choice of platform—mobile or desktop—has become a point of consideration in secondary schools. Mobile e-learning platforms are often seen as more accessible due to the widespread use of smartphones among students. They offer on-the-go learning, enabling students to access educational content from anywhere and at any time (Jibril & Musa, 2023). On the other hand, desktop e-learning platforms are usually more robust, offering a wider range of features, more stable internet connectivity, and larger screens, which may enhance the overall learning experience (Adamu & Bello, 2023).
In Bauchi Local Government Area, secondary schools are increasingly adopting both mobile and desktop e-learning platforms. However, little research has been done to compare the effectiveness of these platforms in terms of engagement, student performance, and accessibility. This study aims to examine the differences between mobile and desktop e-learning platforms in terms of student learning outcomes and engagement in Bauchi secondary schools.
Statement of the problem
The adoption of e-learning platforms in secondary schools is often driven by the belief that they can enhance learning outcomes and provide greater flexibility. However, with the variety of platforms available, it is unclear whether mobile or desktop e-learning platforms offer a better learning experience in the context of Bauchi Local Government Area. This study seeks to explore the advantages and challenges of both mobile and desktop e-learning platforms to help guide educators and school administrators in making informed decisions about their use.
Objectives of the study
To compare the effectiveness of mobile and desktop e-learning platforms in terms of student engagement and learning outcomes in secondary schools in Bauchi.
To assess the accessibility and usability of mobile versus desktop e-learning platforms in Bauchi secondary schools.
To explore the challenges and benefits of using mobile and desktop e-learning platforms in Bauchi secondary schools.
Research questions
How do mobile e-learning platforms compare to desktop e-learning platforms in terms of student engagement and learning outcomes in Bauchi secondary schools?
What are the differences in accessibility and usability between mobile and desktop e-learning platforms in Bauchi secondary schools?
What challenges and benefits do Bauchi secondary schools face when using mobile versus desktop e-learning platforms?
Significance of the study
This study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of mobile and desktop e-learning platforms in secondary education, helping educators and policymakers make informed decisions about the implementation of e-learning tools.
Scope and limitations of the study
This study is focused on secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, comparing mobile and desktop e-learning platforms. The study does not include other forms of learning platforms or extend to schools outside of this region.
